Who Was Abraham?

Abraham can be found in Genesis of the Bible. The Lord makes a Covenant with Abraham in the Bible (Genesis 12:1-3) and promises the land (that is modern day Israel) to Abraham and his descendants.

Genesis 12:1-3
1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:
2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

This is what is known as the Abrahamic Covenant. We see this Covenant fulfilled with the Children of Israel entering into the Promised Land, and then later with the Messiah (Jesus Christ) when He will come to reign and recapture the land for God's people.

Also, the Lord changes Abraham's name in the Bible from Abram to Abraham after giving the promise, changing the meaning of the name from "Great Father" to "Father of Many". (Genesis 17:5)
